I’ve been practicing divorce and family law for 15 years, and over and over again I have been struck by the ways that a client’s mindset and goal setting (or lack thereof) impacted their divorce outcomes. I have seen too many people get caught up in the adversarial legal aspects of divorce and child custody disputes—which is extremely expensive and does not necessarily achieve any of the individual’s true goals for their life and family.

There are many aspects of divorce that individuals need help with that are simply not best served by their attorney or within the legal system (and in fact, the legal system can actually cause a lot of harm for someone that hasn’t identified their goals for the process).

In divorce, individuals must make one serious, life-altering decision after another, such as:

  • First, is divorce even the right option?
  • Who should keep the house?
  • If you move out, should you rent or buy?
  • Will you go back to work?
  • Can you manage a household budget when you never have before?
  • How will you talk to and about your ex so that your children aren’t harmed by the divorce?

Trust me, you do not want these important aspects of your life to be determined exclusively through the legal process of divorce. These issues need diligent, thoughtful consideration, and you need to be able to understand what you want and why.  If you don’t do this important self-reflection work, you will be set up to continue feeling frustrated or hopeless well after the divorce is technically over.

Similarly, there are certain personal changes and hurdles every person in an unhealthy relationship, or going through divorce faces, such as:

  • How do you change engrained toxic communication patterns?
  • How do you keep moving towards your personal goals, despite your spouse’s efforts to thwart you?
  • How do you collaborate effectively with a co-parent that you can’t stand?
  • How do you make important decisions affecting both of you, if the other person is stonewalling?

As a divorce coach, I help clients who feel stuck, disempowered, or uninformed make good, sound decisions that are aligned with their best self, so that they—and their children—can enjoy more peace, fulfillment, and joy after divorce.

My warm personality, creative approach to problem-solving, and optimism allow me to serve my clients in a way that no other professional, friend, or family member can. I help clients navigate all of the emotional, interpersonal, and financial elements of divorce—by providing structure, information, and a wide breadth of resources—so that they can break through the overwhelm and move on with their lives confidently.
